Best Time to Visit Alanya
When to Visit Alanya
Alanya sits on Turkey’s sun-drenched Mediterranean coast, and choosing the right time to visit can make the difference between a relaxed holiday and a sweaty, overpriced scramble for sunbeds. The honest answer is that this resort town has a very defined sweet spot, and straying outside it comes with real trade-offs worth understanding before you book.
Spring, particularly May and June, offers some of the most rewarding conditions you will find anywhere on the Turkish Riviera. Temperatures sit comfortably in the mid-twenties, the sea has warmed enough for swimming, and the beaches haven’t yet filled with the wall-to-wall crowds of peak summer. Hotel rates during these months sit significantly lower than July and August, making Alanya genuinely accessible on a budget without sacrificing sunshine or atmosphere. The town still hums with energy, restaurants are fully open, and the famous Red Tower looks spectacular against clear blue skies without a forest of selfie sticks blocking the view.
July and August are when Alanya transforms completely. Temperatures regularly push past 35 degrees Celsius, humidity climbs, and every beach, attraction, and restaurant operates at absolute capacity. Prices surge accordingly, with accommodation sometimes doubling or tripling compared to shoulder season rates. European and domestic Turkish tourists flood the coastline simultaneously, creating gridlock on the main promenade and long waits at Cleopatra Beach. If peak summer is your only option, go in with realistic expectations and book everything well in advance.
September and October are arguably the finest months of all. The summer crowds thin noticeably after the first week of September, sea temperatures remain wonderfully warm from months of accumulated heat, and budget travellers will find genuinely excellent deals as hotels compete harder for bookings. October still delivers reliable sunshine with pleasantly cooler evenings perfect for exploring the old city on foot.
Winter, from November through March, sees many businesses close entirely and the atmosphere becomes almost ghostly. While prices drop to their lowest, there is simply less to do and the weather turns unpredictable.
The insider tip worth remembering is that the third week of September hits a magical balance of warm water, half-empty beaches, and discounted rates that few visitors seem to have discovered yet.
