July and August transform Ischia into something altogether different. Italian families descend en masse, prices spike significantly, every thermal establishment operates at capacity, and the narrow roads through Forio and Casamicciola become genuinely frustrating. The heat intensifies beyond comfortable for many visitors, occasionally reaching oppressive levels. Unless you book accommodations months in advance and genuinely enjoy vibrant chaos, summer is worth avoiding entirely.

September and October deliver conditions many experienced travelers consider superior to spring. The sea retains its warmth from summer, reaching peak temperatures that make evening swims genuinely magical. Tourist numbers drop noticeably after the first week of September, prices begin softening, and the island returns to something approaching its authentic self. Locals reappear in their own restaurants and bars. October brings occasional rain but also dramatic light and considerably reduced budgets.

Winter sees most thermal parks close or reduce operations, ferry services thin out, and many hotels shut completely. The island is beautiful in a melancholy way, but infrastructure simply does not support a full visit.
