# Bodrum in September: The Sweet Spot Nobody Talks About Enough

September in Bodrum is honestly one of those travel timing decisions you’ll feel smug about. The brutal August madness has packed its bags, the sea is sitting at a gorgeous warm temperature from months of sun, and the town remembers what it feels like to breathe again.

That 27°C average is the real deal. Hot enough that you’re absolutely still in beach mode, cool enough that walking around the castle or wandering the marina in the afternoon doesn’t feel like a punishment. The evenings get genuinely pleasant rather than that suffocating August warmth that sticks to everything. You’ll want a light layer after 10pm but nothing serious.

Under 20mm of rain across the whole month means you might catch one grey afternoon, maybe two. It’s not something to plan around. The sun dominates.

Crowds are noticeably thinner than July and August, which sounds obvious but the difference is dramatic. Restaurants actually have tables. The beach bars have space. Staff are less frazzled and more willing to have an actual conversation. The Turkish domestic tourist crowd has largely returned to work and school, which changes the atmosphere considerably. It’s still busy, particularly on weekends, so don’t expect a deserted paradise, but it’s manageable.

Everything is open. This is the thing that makes September genuinely better than October for most people. Every boat trip, beach club, bar, restaurant – all running. You’re not gambling on anything being closed for the season yet.

September suits couples, solo travellers, and anyone who finds August beach resorts mildly overwhelming. Families with school-age kids are mostly gone, which changes the vibe toward something more relaxed and adult. If you specifically love the full carnival chaos of peak season, September might feel slightly flat to you – but for most people, slightly flat is exactly right.

**One practical tip:** Book boat trips in advance anyway. The gulet day trips to the peninsula’s coves still fill up quickly, especially on weekends, and they’re genuinely the best thing you can do here.
