Look, March in Budva is not the postcard version. The old town walls look genuinely dramatic under grey skies, the Adriatic is cold and a bit choppy, and that famous beach? Mostly empty, occasionally dotted with optimistic retirees in windbreakers reading paperbacks. This is not necessarily a bad thing.

The weather sits around 15 degrees, which sounds almost reasonable until the rain arrives. And it does arrive. Nearly 240mm across the month means you’re not unlucky if you get rained on, you’re just in March. Pack accordingly and adjust your expectations from “beach holiday” to “actually explore the place.”

Here’s what that gets you. The old town is extraordinary when you’re not elbowing through tour groups. You can sit in a konoba, nurse a coffee for an hour without guilt, and have genuine conversations with locals who aren’t exhausted by their fifth thousand tourist of the day. The walls, the narrow streets, the sea views from the fortress – all of it hits differently when it’s just you and a handful of other people who clearly did their research wrong or, like you, did it exactly right.

Most restaurants are either closed or running reduced hours, so don’t expect everything to be swinging. The main strip is basically hibernating. But the local spots are open, prices are genuinely off-season, and accommodation costs a fraction of summer rates.

**Is it worth it?** For couples, solo travelers, photographers, history people, and anyone who finds peak-season Montenegro slightly exhausting – yes, genuinely. For families expecting beach days and watersports, come back in June.

**One practical tip:** Check specifically which restaurants are open before you arrive, not just whether Budva is “open.” The difference between three options and thirty matters when it’s raining sideways on a Tuesday evening and you’re hungry. Message places directly on Instagram – they actually respond, and you’ll know immediately who’s trading.

March Budva rewards people who meet it on its own terms rather than the ones it pretends to be in summer brochures.
