# Kefalonia in February: The Honest Version

Let’s be real with you: Kefalonia in February is a completely different island to the one plastered across Instagram. And depending on what you’re after, that’s either a problem or the whole point.

The weather sits around 11°C with a fair amount of rain, and those 50mm don’t always spread themselves politely across the month. You’ll get stretches of genuinely grey, drizzly days followed by crisp, clear mornings where the light on the Ionian is extraordinary and you’ll feel like you’ve discovered something private. That contrast is kind of the February experience in a nutshell.

The crowds are essentially nonexistent. Myrtos Beach, which spends summer looking like a car park, will probably have just you and a dog on it. You can actually see why people lose their minds over this island when you’re not fighting for a patch of sand to stand on.

Here’s the honest part about what’s open though: not much. Many tavernas, hotels, and rental car places are firmly shut. Argostoli has life year-round – supermarkets, a few cafes, local restaurants – and that’s genuinely where February on Kefalonia actually happens. It’s a working Greek town doing its thing, completely unbothered by tourism, and there’s something lovely about seeing it like that.

Is it worth going? For certain people, absolutely yes. If you want hiking without the heat, dramatic coastal scenery without the circus, and accommodation prices that seem almost suspicious, February delivers. Writers, photographers, couples wanting genuine quiet, and anyone with a solid waterproof jacket will find a lot to like.

If you need beach swimming, reliable sunshine, or half your favourite restaurant to be open, this isn’t your month. Come back in May or September instead.

**One practical tip:** Book accommodation in Argostoli rather than isolated resort areas. You want to be somewhere with actual infrastructure around you, because discovering your only nearby taverna closed in November is a deeply unfun February evening.
