# Cádiz in May: Pretty Much Perfect, Actually

Look, I’ll be straight with you — May is genuinely one of the better times to show up in Cádiz, and it’s not complicated to explain why.

The weather sits around 24°C, which means you’re warm enough to want to be outside constantly but not so cooked that you’re retreating to air conditioning by noon. That matters in a city where the whole point is wandering the old town, sitting on the city beach at La Caleta, and eating fried fish on plastic chairs near the seafront. You’ll get some rain — about 25mm across the month, which sounds precise but basically means a handful of grey afternoons where it drizzles for an hour, then stops. Pack a light jacket. You won’t regret it and you’ll almost certainly use it.

Crowds are manageable in May. The Spanish summer stampede hasn’t fully arrived yet. Semana Santa is behind you, the August madness is ahead, and you’ll find the Cathedral square without performing a rugby scrum to get a photo. Restaurants are running full menus, the seafood market is worth an early morning visit, and you won’t queue for a table at a decent tapas bar if you eat at Spanish hours — meaning 9pm is completely normal.

Everything is open. Seriously, nothing shuts on you the way it might in shoulder season. Boat trips to the surrounding area, day trips to Jerez or the White Villages, the beaches along the coast — all operational and not yet overwhelmed.

Who is this for? Honestly, almost everyone. Solo travellers who want a walkable, characterful city without tourist fatigue. Couples who’d rather have a conversation over dinner than shout over club music. Families where the kids can hit the beach and the adults can drink Fino sherry in the afternoon sun. People who don’t have six weeks of holiday and need the weather to actually cooperate.

**One practical tip:** Book accommodation early anyway. Cádiz is small, the good places are genuinely limited, and May fills up faster than people expect.
