# Cagliari in February: The Honest Version
Let’s be upfront: February in Cagliari is not the Mediterranean dream you’ve been picturing. It’s mild by northern European standards, sure, but 10-11°C with a reasonable chance of rain means you’re not sitting on a beach terrace in a linen shirt. You’re more likely wearing your proper jacket and wondering if you packed an umbrella.
That said, the city itself is genuinely lovely in a way that summer can actually obscure.
**What it’s actually like**
The rain tends to arrive in spells rather than drizzling all day, so you’ll often get bright, clear mornings that make the limestone of the Castello quarter glow properly. The light is sharp and low, which is beautiful if you’re walking those steep streets up to the cathedral or looking out over the lagoons where flamingos genuinely hang around all winter. Wind can be the real issue though – Sardinia gets battered sometimes in February and it cuts right through you on the waterfront.
**Crowds and what’s open**
This is almost entirely a local city in February. Tourists are minimal, prices are down, and you can walk into restaurants without a booking. The main museums, the archaeological collection especially, are open and unhurried. Sant’Efisio festivities happen in May, not now, but Carnevale falls in February some years, which means street life picks up unexpectedly and becomes genuinely fun to stumble into.
**Is it worth it?**
For city people who actually like cities – yes, completely. If you want beaches and sunshine, come back in June. But if you’re someone who enjoys wandering a working Sardinian neighbourhood, eating seriously good food, and not competing with anyone for space, February delivers that quietly and cheaply.
**One practical tip**
Book accommodation in the Villanova or Marina neighbourhoods rather than the outskirts. In February without a car, being walkable to everything matters far more than it does in summer. The city centre is compact enough that you genuinely don’t need anything else.
