# Capri in October: The Island After the Circus Leaves

By October, Capri has finally exhaled. The summer crowd – the day-trippers clutching selfie sticks, the superyachts stacking up in the marina, the queues snaking around the Blue Grotto – most of that has dissolved. What’s left feels surprisingly close to an actual place rather than a theme park built around limoncello shops.

The weather sits at around 18°C, which is genuinely pleasant rather than spectacular. Pack layers. Mornings can feel crisp walking up through Anacapri, and that 45mm of monthly rainfall means you’ll almost certainly catch a grey day or two. Maybe three. The sea is still swimmable early in the month – water temperature lingers from summer – but by late October you’re probably just paddling and pretending.

Crowds are dramatically reduced but not gone entirely. Weekends still bring day-trippers from Naples, so if you want the narrow streets of Capri town relatively to yourself, visit on a Tuesday. The difference is real. You can actually stop on Via Camerelle without being swept along like a slow fish in fast water.

What’s open is the honest complication. Some restaurants close mid-month, a handful of hotels shut entirely by end of October, and boat tour operators run reduced schedules. The Blue Grotto depends entirely on sea conditions anyway, so there are no guarantees there in any season. Check specifically what you want before booking – don’t assume.

The walking trails are genuinely excellent in October. The hike to Monte Solaro and the path down to the Faraglioni with nobody around you is worth considerable inconvenience.

**Who should go:** Anyone who found summer Capri exhausting, couples, serious walkers, photographers who don’t want strangers in every frame.

**Who shouldn’t:** People who need everything open and buzzing, anyone for whom one rainy day ruins a short trip.

**One practical tip:** Book your return ferry before you go out for dinner. Evening services reduce in October and missing the last boat to Naples is an expensive mistake that happens more than the tourist websites mention.
