# Alanya in March: The Honest Version
March in Alanya is genuinely interesting, but probably not for the reasons the travel brochures would have you believe.
The weather sits around 17 degrees, which sounds pleasant until you’re actually standing on the beach in a sea breeze wondering why you packed so many shorts. It’s t-shirt weather during a sunny afternoon walk, jacket weather the moment clouds roll in, and that happens more than you’d expect. March brings real rain too – not constant drizzle, but proper downpours that can wipe out an entire afternoon. You’ll want layers and something waterproof. Don’t let anyone convince you it’s beach weather. It really isn’t.
That said, the town itself is surprisingly enjoyable. The crowds are thin to almost nonexistent by high-season standards. The castle climb feels meditative rather than like a sweaty queue. Restaurant owners actually have time to talk to you. Prices for accommodation are noticeably lower, and you can walk along the harbour without negotiating a path through tour groups.
What’s open is hit and miss. Most of the bigger beach clubs and water parks are still shuttered, and some smaller restaurants operate reduced hours or close randomly mid-week. The old town, the castle, Damlataş Cave and the harbour area are all accessible and genuinely worthwhile. The bazaar area is active. You won’t be bored, but you can’t rely on everything being available.
**Is it worth going?** For the right person, absolutely yes. If you want sightseeing without the chaos, good food without the tourist markup, and you genuinely like the idea of having a historic coastal town feel almost like it belongs to you for a few days – March works well. If you’re chasing beach holidays and guaranteed sunshine, you’ll probably feel shortchanged.
**One practical tip:** Book accommodation with indoor common spaces or a decent bar area. When the rain hits, and it will hit, you’ll want somewhere comfortable to sit it out rather than staring at four walls in a summer-optimised room designed entirely around a balcony you can’t use.
