# Çeşme in October: The Honest Version
By October, Çeşme has exhaled. The summer circus of yacht people, Istanbul weekenders and European package tourists has largely packed up and left, and the town finally feels like somewhere you might actually want to spend time rather than survive.
The weather sits at a genuinely pleasant 19°C, which sounds perfect on paper and mostly is. You’ll get plenty of warm, sunny days where a light jacket is enough in the evening and the sea is still swimmable if you’re not precious about it. But that 45mm of rain has to land somewhere, and October does throw occasional grey, blustery stretches that can last two or three days at a time. The Aegean gets moody. Don’t build a trip around beach time and expect to be happy.
What you gain is the actual town. Alaçatı’s stone streets, which are genuinely beautiful and genuinely impossible to enjoy in August when they’re shoulder-to-shoulder with influencers photographing bougainvillea, become walkable and human again. Restaurants have tables available. The good ones, the places locals actually go, are still open and often visibly relieved to be serving people who aren’t in a hurry.
The marina area quietens significantly and some smaller beach clubs and water sports outfits will be closed or winding down. The famous windsurfing scene at Alaçatı is actually still alive in October because the autumn winds are reliable and serious kitesurfers know this. If that’s your thing, October is arguably better than August.
Is it worth it? For couples, solo travellers, food-focused people, walkers, and anyone who hated the idea of Çeşme in summer, absolutely yes. For families needing guaranteed beach days or people who need a buzzing holiday atmosphere to feel like they’re on holiday, probably not the right call.
**One practical tip:** Book accommodation anyway. October is shoulder season but Alaçatı specifically has limited good options and they still fill up on weekends, when Istanbul day-trippers and weekend visitors absolutely still come. Don’t assume you can just show up.
