So you’re thinking about heading to the Blue City in June. Here’s the honest picture.

June sits in that slightly awkward shoulder period where spring has properly finished but summer hasn’t fully announced itself in the way July and August will. Temperatures in Chefchaouen are noticeably more forgiving than elsewhere in Morocco because the town sits up in the Rif Mountains at around 600 metres. Expect days in the mid-to-upper twenties Celsius, occasionally tipping into the low thirties during a warm spell. Evenings cool down genuinely pleasantly, which is a relief. Rainfall is low but not zero – you might catch an afternoon shower, so don’t leave your jacket buried at the bottom of your bag.

The crowd situation is real and worth knowing about. June marks the beginning of the tourist season properly ramping up. You’ll share the famous blue medina alleys with a lot of people, particularly on weekends when domestic Moroccan visitors combine with international tourists. The Instagram-famous staircase spots will have queues of people arranging shots. This isn’t a dealbreaker, but go in with eyes open rather than expecting empty blue streets.

Everything is open. Restaurants, guesthouses, the small craft shops selling djellabas and leather goods – all fully operational and actively competing for your business. Hiking in the surrounding Rif Mountains is genuinely excellent in June before the real summer heat arrives. The trail up to the Spanish mosque at sunset remains worth every step regardless of month.

Is it worth visiting in June? Yes, if you’re coming from Europe and constrained by school holidays or work calendars. The weather is genuinely good without being punishing, and the town is beautiful in a way that holds up even with crowds. If you have flexibility though, late April or early May gives you similar temperatures with noticeably fewer tourists.

**Practical tip:** Book your riad well ahead. June accommodation in Chefchaouen sells out faster than you’d expect, and the good smaller guesthouses inside the medina go first. Don’t leave it two weeks before.
