# Formentera in November: The Honest Version

Let me be straight with you. November Formentera is not the Instagram version. The beach bars are shuttered, half the restaurants have pulled down their grilles, and the famous turquoise water is still beautiful but nobody’s swimming in it unless they’re slightly unhinged or Scandinavian.

The weather sits around 18 or 19 degrees, which sounds perfectly pleasant until you factor in that the wind off the sea has real bite to it. You’ll want a jacket for evenings, genuinely. The 60mm of rainfall for the month isn’t constant misery — it tends to arrive in short, dramatic Mediterranean bursts rather than the grey drizzle you might know from home — but plan at least a few days where the sky does something moody and the dirt tracks turn to mud.

What you actually get is the island stripped back. The population shrinks to a few thousand permanent residents, and you’ll cycle the entire length of the island on roads that in August feel like a cycling holiday in hell. The salt flats are genuinely spectacular in autumn light. Es Pujols and Sant Francesc have enough cafes and bars open to keep you fed and drinking. It’s not a ghost town, but it’s quiet enough that people remember seeing you.

Is it worth it? Honestly, yes — but only for a specific type of person. If you want solitude, low prices, good walking and cycling, dramatic off-season light for photography, and the feeling of a place existing for itself rather than for you, November delivers all of that. If you want a holiday that feels like a holiday, with beach days and evening crowds and options, go literally any other month.

**The practical tip worth having:** Check accommodation personally before booking. Many places listing themselves as “open” have skeleton staff or maintenance happening. A quick email or phone call saves you arriving to a technically-open hotel that’s half under renovation and serving breakfast from a box.

Go for the quiet. Go knowing what it is.
