# Himarë in November: The Honest Version
Look, Himarë in November is a completely different animal to the summer chaos, and whether that’s a good thing depends entirely on what you’re after.
The weather is genuinely mild by most European standards — that 13°C average feels comfortable enough for walking, but pair it with 60mm of rain across the month and you’re looking at some properly grey, brooding days. The Albanian Riviera in low cloud is actually beautiful in its own dramatic way, all dark Ionian water and misty mountains, but you need to be honest with yourself about whether that appeals to you or quietly depresses you.
The crowds are essentially gone. And I mean *gone*. In August this stretch of coast is borderline unbearable — gridlocked roads, packed beaches, overpriced everything. In November you can walk the waterfront alone, sit on a beach without another soul visible, and actually look at the Venetian castle ruins without someone’s selfie stick in your peripheral vision. It’s genuinely peaceful.
What’s open is the real question. Many of the beach bars and seasonal restaurants have pulled their shutters down until May and have absolutely no interest in your business right now. You’ll find some tavernas open, particularly those serving locals, and you can eat excellently and cheaply — fresh fish, *fërgëse*, good local wine. But don’t expect options. Some days your choice might be limited to two places, and one might close early.
Is it worth visiting? For hikers, photographers, people who find busy resorts exhausting, or anyone wanting Albanian coastal towns at their most authentic — absolutely yes. For people who need beach swimming, cocktail bars, and a buzzing scene — genuinely, wait until June.
The surrounding villages like Palasë and the road up to Llogara Pass are spectacular in autumn light when it breaks through, and you’ll have the landscape almost entirely to yourself.
**Practical tip:** Call any accommodation ahead to confirm they’re actually open. Booking platforms will happily take your money for places that are functionally closed for the season.
