Crowds are essentially zero. If solitude is what you want, genuine empty-beach solitude without paying premium prices for it, January delivers completely. The old fortresses, the pine-backed promenade, the little harbour – you’ll have them to yourself. There’s something quietly beautiful about this town without the parasols and the beach bars competing for attention.

Is it worth it? For photographers, slow travellers, writers needing somewhere cheap and distraction-free, or anyone specifically escaping people – yes, genuinely. For someone wanting restaurants, nightlife, beach weather or things to do beyond walking and thinking – not really.

**Practical tip:** Call or message your accommodation directly before booking to confirm they’re actually operational that week. Some places list January availability online but are physically closed, which creates an unpleasant surprise on arrival at a very quiet bus stop.
