# Ischia in March: The Honest Version
Look, March in Ischia is genuinely lovely, but you need to go in with realistic expectations rather than fantasies of basking on sun-drenched terraces.
**What it actually feels like**
Fourteen degrees sounds reasonable on paper. In practice, there’s usually a damp wind coming off the water that makes it feel closer to ten. You’ll want a proper jacket, not just a light layer. The rain comes in bursts rather than all-day misery – a grey morning that clears into genuinely beautiful afternoon light, the kind that makes the island look almost impossibly cinematic. The volcanic landscape is extraordinarily green right now, the terraced hillsides properly lush in a way they absolutely won’t be by August.
**Crowds and what’s open**
This is where March earns its value. The island is essentially yours. Forio, Sant’Angelo, the ferry port at Casamicciola – you can actually see and experience these places without negotiating through walls of tourists. The flip side is real though: a meaningful chunk of restaurants, shops and smaller hotels are still shuttered. You’ll find places to eat without much trouble, but don’t expect every recommendation you’ve read online to be operating. Call ahead if something specific matters to you.
The thermal parks – Poseidon, Negomino – are the big question mark. Some open for Easter regardless of where it falls, others wait until April or May. Check directly before you build your trip around them.
**Is it worth it, and for whom**
Absolutely worth it if you’re a walker, a photographer, someone who just wants to sit quietly with good wine and not fight for the experience. The hiking trails through Epomeo are spectacular without the summer heat and the paths are empty. If you need beach weather or a buzzing social scene, wait until June.
**One practical thing**
The ferry and hydrofoil schedules run reduced timetables until Easter. If you’re day-tripping from Naples rather than staying overnight, check times carefully or you’ll spend your evening watching the last boat leave without you.
