# Kalkan in April: What It’s Actually Like
Let’s be honest with you. April in Kalkan is genuinely lovely, but it’s not the postcard-perfect sun-drenched holiday you might be picturing if you’re used to thinking “Turkey equals blazing heat.”
At around 21°C, the temperature is comfortable rather than hot. You’ll need a light jacket for evenings, and if you’re hoping to spend serious time on a sun lounger, some days will disappoint you. The 42mm of rainfall means you’ll almost certainly get a wet day or two, sometimes a wet morning that clears into something beautiful, sometimes a full washout. Pack layers and don’t build your entire trip around beach time.
That said, the town itself is genuinely charming at this time of year. The famous rooftop restaurants are mostly open, the bougainvillea is starting to go mad with colour, and the hillside is extraordinarily green. Walking the surrounding trails feels effortless in that temperature rather than punishing. The sea is cold though, realistically around 17-18°C, so swimming is for the brave or the determined.
Crowds are refreshingly low. Kalkan gets seriously busy in July and August, with prices to match and rooftop tables requiring forward planning. In April you can wander, browse, and eat wherever you fancy. Most shops and restaurants are open because the town has woken up for the season, but it hasn’t hit its frantic peak. You get the infrastructure without the chaos.
Is it worth visiting? Absolutely, but for the right person. If you want guaranteed heat and beach time, wait until June. If you’re after good food, beautiful scenery, coastal walks, day trips to Patara or the sunken city at Kekova, and a relaxed pace without fighting for space, April genuinely delivers.
**Practical tip:** Book a rooftop restaurant table for your first evening regardless of the weather forecast. Even with cloud cover, the view over the harbour at dusk is the moment Kalkan properly introduces itself, and you’ll kick yourself if you end up somewhere interior by accident.
