Fiskardo retains some life and charm, Argostoli has enough going on year-round, but if you’re planning to island-hop between beaches and villages on a whim, you’ll find locked doors and empty parking lots more often than you’d like.

So who is December actually right for? Hikers who want the trails without August’s brutal heat will find this month genuinely rewarding – the interior is green and dramatic. History and culture people can properly explore the Archaeological Museum and monastery without crowds pressing around them. Writers, remote workers, people needing somewhere quiet to think: yes, absolutely.

Sun-seekers, families with young children, anyone whose holiday happiness depends on a warm sea: wait until May at the earliest.

**One practical tip:** book accommodation directly and call ahead. Don’t assume anything listed online is actually operating. A two-minute phone call saves a miserable arrival.
