Where to Stay in Mykonos
Where to Stay in Mykonos
Mykonos is one of the Mediterranean’s most glamorous destinations, and if you’re going luxury, you’re in the right place because this island does high-end exceptionally well. The question isn’t whether you’ll find something spectacular, it’s knowing exactly where to put your money.
The most coveted area is the Aleomandra peninsula near Psarabades, home to some of the island’s most iconic cliff-edge hotels with unobstructed sunset views toward Delos. Properties here offer genuine privacy, private pools, and the kind of dramatic scenery that justifies the eye-watering rates. Mykonos Town itself, known as Chora, places you within walking distance of the windmills, Little Venice, and the best restaurants, but expect noise until well past 3am during peak summer. For luxury travelers wanting atmosphere over sleep, it works perfectly. For everyone else, it’s a gamble.
Avoid the area around Paradise and Super Paradise beaches entirely if peace matters to you. These zones are built for party tourism, and no amount of money buys quiet when your neighbors are dancing until sunrise on a shared beach. The southern coast hotels are generally better positioned for serious luxury seekers wanting both views and some semblance of calm.
For true luxury, budget north of 1,500 euros per night during July and August without blinking. The iconic cliff properties routinely charge 3,000 to 5,000 euros for prime rooms during peak weeks. Shoulder season, meaning late May, early June, or September, cuts those rates by 30 to 50 percent while still delivering excellent weather and fully operational services.
The single biggest booking mistake people make in Mykonos is reserving a room with a sea view without confirming whether that view is genuinely unobstructed or photographed cleverly at an angle that hides a neighboring rooftop. Call the hotel directly before booking. Ask specifically which direction the room faces and request actual photos, not marketing images. The island’s terrain is uneven and buildings cluster tightly, so what looks like an infinity-edge paradise online occasionally delivers a partial wall and a sliver of blue water in reality.
