Visiting Larnaca in March

# Larnaca in March: What It’s Actually Like

Look, March in Larnaca is genuinely hard to predict, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling something. You might land to crisp sunshine and 18°C, or you might spend three days watching grey drizzle streak your apartment window. Both are entirely possible. Pack layers and a light waterproof, accept the uncertainty, and you’ll be fine.

What you do get in March is the city feeling like itself rather than a theme park version of itself. The salt lake is still full of water, and if you’re lucky, the flamingos haven’t fully departed yet – catching a few dozen of those pink weirdos standing around looking unbothered is genuinely one of the better free experiences Cyprus offers. The Finikoudes promenade is walkable without sweating through your shirt, which is more than you can say for July.

Crowds are minimal. The big package holiday wave hasn’t arrived, which means Hala Sultan Tekke mosque feels properly peaceful rather than a backdrop for Instagram queues, and you can sit in a taverna without waiting forty minutes for a table. Prices reflect this too – accommodation and flights are noticeably cheaper than peak summer months.

Everything worth visiting is open, though some beach bars and seasonal restaurants are still shuttered or running reduced hours. The main archaeological sites, the churches, the castle – all accessible. Just don’t arrive expecting a buzzing nightlife scene. March Larnaca goes to bed at a reasonable hour.

Is it worth it? For culture-focused travellers, walkers, or anyone needing a quiet reset without full hibernation, genuinely yes. For people whose holiday success depends on guaranteed beach days and a poolside party atmosphere, wait until May at the earliest.

**One practical tip:** Rent a car for at least one day. Larnaca itself is compact enough to walk, but the surrounding villages and Cape Kiti coastline are difficult on public transport and completely different in feel to the main strip. March traffic is light enough that driving there is actually pleasant rather than stressful.
