# Marmaris in September: Still Summer, Just Slightly Saner

If you visited Marmaris in July or August, you’ll remember it as a sweaty, shoulder-to-shoulder chaos of sunburned tourists, overpriced cocktails, and queues for everything. September is that same place with the volume turned down a notch. Not off, just down.

The heat is still genuinely intense. You’re looking at around 30-31°C most days, which is proper hot, not “oh how pleasant” hot. The sea temperature is perfect though, still warm from months of summer sun, and that’s honestly the main reason to be here. The rain figure of under 18mm for the whole month sounds reassuring but treat it as background noise – you might get a brief afternoon storm that clears within an hour, then brilliant sunshine again. It won’t ruin anything.

The crowds thin noticeably after the first week. European school terms kick in and families with kids largely disappear, which transforms the place. Bar Street still does its thing, the boat trips still run, restaurants are still fully open and actually have tables available without a 45-minute wait. The market traders are slightly less aggressive because they’re not operating in peak desperation mode. Everything is operating, just breathing more normally.

Who is September actually good for? Couples, solo travellers, anyone who wants the full Marmaris experience without wanting to cry in a supermarket queue. It suits people who still want a classic Turkish resort holiday – boat trips, good seafood, beach bars, maybe a day trip to Dalyan or Icmeler – but with some semblance of comfort. It’s not the hidden gem month that shoulder season evangelists pretend it is, but it’s noticeably better than peak summer.

Worth visiting? Yes, if a lively resort holiday is what you’re after. No, if you’re hoping it transforms into something quieter and more “authentic” – it’s still a resort town doing resort town things.

**Practical tip:** Book boat trips directly at the harbour in the morning rather than through your hotel. You’ll pay less and get the same trip.
