Here’s the thing about Mykonos in April that nobody in a brochure will tell you: it’s a building site. Not literally, but the island is essentially waking up from a long winter sleep, and you can feel it. Restaurants are repainting their walls, beach clubs are still setting out sun loungers, and roughly half the places you read about online haven’t opened yet. That’s the reality.

The weather sits around 19-20°C, which sounds lovely until the Aegean wind gets involved. You’ll be comfortable walking around in a light jacket, genuinely warm when the sun comes out, and then suddenly freezing when a gust comes off the water. Expect around 30mm of rain across the month, usually arriving in short, moody bursts rather than all-day downpours. It’s absolutely fine, just not the scorched Mediterranean heat people imagine.

What you gain in April is something genuinely rare for Mykonos: quiet. The Instagram crowds, the bottle-service mayhem, the €30 cocktails on packed beaches – most of that isn’t happening yet. You can actually walk through the narrow streets of Chora and enjoy them. The famous windmills look spectacular without three hundred people photographing them simultaneously. It feels like an actual Greek island rather than a theme park version of one.

Most of the core town restaurants, bakeries, and shops are open. The Little Venice waterfront area is lovely and accessible. However, don’t plan your trip around specific beach clubs or that famous restaurant you saw on social media – check directly whether they’re open, because many won’t be.

**Is it worth visiting?** For couples wanting atmosphere over parties, photographers, budget-conscious travellers (prices are noticeably lower), and anyone who finds peak-season Mykonos genuinely exhausting – yes, genuinely worth it. For people whose whole vision involves packed beaches and nightlife until 6am, honestly wait until June.

**One practical tip:** Book accommodation in the main town rather than outlying areas. With fewer transport options running, being central matters much more in April than it does mid-summer.
