Where to Stay in Paros
Where to Stay in Paros
Paros sits in a sweet spot among the Cyclades — popular enough to have good infrastructure, but not so overrun that you’re fighting crowds at every turn. For mid-range travelers, the island offers genuinely good value if you know where to plant yourself.
Naoussa is the most rewarding base for most visitors. It’s a working fishing village that happens to have excellent restaurants, a lively bar scene, and a pretty harbor without feeling completely manufactured for tourists. Mid-range hotels here typically run 80 to 150 euros per night in summer and deliver solid rooms, often with a pool. The town is walkable and well-connected by bus to the rest of the island. Parikia, the capital, is the alternative worth considering — especially if you’re arriving by ferry, since it’s the main port. It’s busier and slightly less charming than Naoussa, but accommodation is often 15 to 20 percent cheaper for comparable quality, and the old town behind the main strip has genuine character.
Avoid booking anything in Piso Livadi or the eastern villages unless you specifically want isolation. These areas lack the dining and nightlife options that make Paros worth visiting over quieter islands, and you’ll be dependent on a car or expensive taxis for everything.
For budget travelers stretching into mid-range, look for studios with kitchenettes in the Parikia backstreets — you save on food costs without sacrificing location. If you’re at the upper end of mid-range, Naoussa’s boutique hotels occasionally offer early-booking discounts in May and June that drop prices dramatically before peak season kicks in.
The most common booking mistake is filtering only for hotels. Paros has an abundance of family-run studios and apartments that don’t show up on major hotel platforms. Checking Airbnb or local Greek booking sites alongside Booking.com often reveals significantly better options at the same price. Many visitors overpay for mediocre hotel rooms when a private studio with a terrace and sea glimpse was available for less, simply because they never looked beyond the obvious search results.
