Visiting Nerja in November
Visiting Nerja in November
# Nerja in November: The Honest Version
Look, November in Nerja is genuinely unpredictable, and anyone telling you otherwise is guessing. The Mediterranean climate means you could land on a week of warm, golden days hitting 18-20°C where you’re eating lunch outside in a light jacket feeling smug. Or you could get a week of grey skies and proper rain that turns the streets slick and sends everyone retreating indoors. Sometimes you get both in the same trip. Pack accordingly and don’t build your holiday around guaranteed sunshine.
What November does deliver, consistently, is quiet. The crowds that clog the Balcón de Europa and the beaches from June through September have largely evaporated. You can actually walk through the old town without negotiating a human obstacle course. Restaurants have space. You can get a table at places that would have had you queuing in August. The locals feel more present, more relaxed, and the town has a slightly more real quality to it that genuinely appeals to people who find peak-season tourist resorts exhausting.
Most things are still open, but hours get shorter and some smaller places close on weekdays or take their annual break in November. The Nerja Caves remain open year-round and are honestly more atmospheric when you’re not shuffling through with a thousand other people. The beaches are walkable and lovely even if swimming is a stretch – water temperatures drop but die-hard swimmers still go in. Just don’t expect beach bars to be operational.
Is it worth it? For certain people, absolutely yes. If you want affordability, space, good food without the chaos, and you’re not entirely dependent on beach time, November works well. Retired travellers, couples wanting somewhere relaxed, walkers exploring the surrounding hills and the Maro cliffs – they often love it here this time of year. If you’re coming specifically for beach holidays and consistent heat, honestly wait until May or June.
**Practical tip:** Book accommodation with a fireplace or decent heating. Evenings get genuinely chilly, and a cold villa after a rainy day will wreck your mood faster than anything else.
