# Olympos in July: Honest Take

Let me be straight with you: July in Olympos is hot. Not pleasantly warm, not “bring a light cardigan for evenings” hot. We’re talking consistently pushing 35°C (95°F) and sometimes beyond, with humidity creeping in from the coast that makes the ruins feel like you’re exploring inside a mouth. The Lycian site sits in a gorge-like valley where air barely moves, and by 11am you’ll be genuinely questioning your life choices if you’re pushing through without adequate water.

Rainfall in July is essentially negligible. You’re not packing an umbrella. The sky is reliably, relentlessly blue, which sounds wonderful until hour three of walking on ancient stones with no shade canopy.

**The crowds situation** is real but manageable at Olympos specifically. The beach and ruins draw visitors, but this isn’t Ephesus. You’ll share the site with people, definitely, but it rarely feels overwhelming. The famous Chimaera flames up in the hills nearby, and evening visits there actually become quite social and atmospheric rather than uncomfortably packed.

**What’s open:** pretty much everything. The treehouse camps and bungalow operations along the valley road are in full swing, the beach bars are functioning, boat trips run constantly. July is peak season here, so infrastructure is at maximum capacity rather than maximum charm.

**Is it worth visiting in July?** Depends entirely on who you are. If you’re already in the Turkish coast region and want to tick Olympos off, absolutely do it – just arrive at the ruins when they open, around 8am, and leave before noon. If you’re specifically planning a trip around Olympos, honestly consider May or October. You’ll get the same beauty at roughly half the suffering.

July works best for people who are primarily beach-focused and treat the ruins as a morning excursion rather than the whole point.

**Practical tip:** Stay in the valley itself, not further out. The walk between accommodation and the beach ruins in that heat is longer than it looks on the map, and doing it at 2pm is genuinely unpleasant.
