So you’re thinking about Porto-Vecchio in October. Here’s what you actually need to know.

**The weather is genuinely unpredictable.** Early October can still feel like summer — warm enough to swim, golden light, that particular southern Corsican magic still very much alive. But it can also turn without much warning. Rain arrives in bursts, sometimes heavy, and the Mediterranean can get choppy and grey almost overnight. You might get a week of 24°C perfection. You might get four days of drizzle. Pack accordingly and don’t build your entire trip around beach time.

**The crowds thin out significantly**, and honestly this is the main reason to come in October. The peak summer version of Porto-Vecchio is beautiful but genuinely hectic — traffic into the old town, expensive everything, beaches packed with Italian and French families. By October, that’s largely gone. You can actually walk the citadel streets without feeling like you’re in a slow-moving queue. Restaurants have space. You can breathe.

**What’s open is the real question.** The old town itself stays lively because locals still live and work there. You’ll find good restaurants, bars and the market operating normally. But some beach clubs, water sports operators and outlying restaurants — particularly around the Gulf of Santa Giulia and Palombaggia — start closing mid-October. Don’t assume your favourite-looking spot from Instagram is still trading. Check before you go.

**Is it worth it?** For the right person, absolutely yes. If you love hiking, the Ospedale forest and the Alta Rocca hills inland are spectacular in autumn colours and completely uncrowded. If you want a relaxed, genuinely Corsican feel rather than a beach resort experience, October delivers that beautifully. If your heart is set on swimming and sundowners on Palombaggia every day, manage your expectations.

**One practical tip:** hire a car. In summer you can sometimes get away without one. In October, with reduced bus services and some coastal spots getting quieter, you’ll genuinely need the flexibility to chase the sunshine when it appears.
