Visiting Procida in April
# Procida in April: The Sweet Spot Before Everyone Figures It Out
Procida is small. Like, genuinely small – you can walk across the whole island in about 40 minutes. Which means crowd dynamics here are completely different from somewhere like Capri or Santorini. In April, you’re in this interesting window where summer hasn’t arrived but the island is actually alive again after winter’s quiet shutdown.
The weather is genuinely unpredictable. April in the Bay of Naples can be gorgeous – warm sunshine, that ridiculous blue water looking almost offensive in its beauty – or it can be grey, breezy, and damp for days at a stretch. Temperatures sit somewhere in the 14-18°C range typically, but you’ll want a jacket regardless. Pack layers and don’t build your whole trip around beach days, because that would be a gamble you might lose.
What’s open is the real question, and the honest answer is: most things, but check individually. After 2022’s stint as Italian Capital of Culture, Procida got a genuine infrastructure boost. Restaurants and accommodation that used to hibernate until May now often open in April, though hours can be reduced and some smaller places still play it by ear. The ferry connections from Naples and Pozzuoli run regularly year-round, so logistics aren’t the issue.
Crowds are minimal by southern Italian island standards, which is arguably the biggest selling point. The coloured houses along the Marina Corricella won’t have someone else’s selfie stick in your frame. You can actually sit in a restaurant and have a conversation without shouting.
April suits you if you’re interested in photography, slow walks, good food without waiting, and genuinely interacting with a place rather than processing it. It doesn’t suit you if your holiday only works with reliable beach weather and everything being definitively open.
**One practical tip:** Book accommodation in advance anyway. Procida has limited beds at every price point, and the good small places fill up even in shoulder season faster than you’d expect for somewhere this size.
