Visiting Protaras in July
# Protaras in July: What You’re Actually Getting Into
Let’s be straight with you: July in Protaras is peak everything. Peak heat, peak crowds, peak prices, peak noise. The temperature sits somewhere around 33-35°C most days, occasionally nudging higher, with almost zero chance of rain. You will not need to pack an umbrella. You will, however, need to make peace with the sun attempting to personally destroy you between about 11am and 4pm.
The resort is absolutely rammed. Fig Tree Bay, which is genuinely one of the prettier beaches on the island, will have more sunbeds than sand visible by 9am. The main strip is loud, neon-lit and relentless in the evenings, with families, couples and groups of twenty-somethings all somehow occupying the same small stretch of road. Restaurants, bars, water sports operators, boat trips – everything is open and running at full capacity. You won’t struggle to find things to do. You might struggle to do them without queuing.
So is it worth going? That depends entirely on what you’re after. If you want a lively, hot, sun-and-sea holiday where the infrastructure is completely switched on and the vibe is buzzy rather than relaxed, July delivers exactly that. Families with school-age kids obviously don’t have much choice, and honestly the resort handles families well – the water is calm, clear and shallow enough in places to feel safe. Couples wanting quiet romance or solo travellers seeking a slower pace will probably find it overwhelming.
The sea temperature is around 27°C, which is genuinely lovely and one of July’s actual selling points. Early morning swims before the beach fills up are borderline magical.
**One practical tip:** book your sunbeds in advance through your hotel or a beach operator if that’s an option, and get to the beach before 9am regardless. The people arriving at 10:30 looking confused about the lack of space are a cautionary tale that plays out every single day throughout July. Don’t be them.
