Visiting Seville in July
# Seville in July: A Beautiful, Brutal Choice
Let’s be straight with you: Seville in July is genuinely, aggressively hot. We’re talking 38-42°C on a regular afternoon, with stretches where it pushes past that into territory that makes you question your life decisions. It’s consistently one of the hottest cities in Europe during summer, and July is peak punishment season. Rainfall is almost nonexistent – you won’t need to worry about that at all – but the dry heat hits you like opening an oven door every time you step outside.
What does that actually mean on the ground? It means by noon, the streets empty out. Locals disappear. The beautiful old town feels slightly post-apocalyptic during the afternoon hours, which is either atmospheric or miserable depending on your temperament. You’ll be shuffling between air-conditioned spaces more than you planned, and that’s fine, but factor it in.
The crowds are real, though slightly less savage than you might expect given it’s peak European summer. Many Spaniards actually leave Seville in July because it’s too hot for them, which tells you something important. You’ll mostly be surrounded by tourists rather than locals, and major sites like the Alcázar and Cathedral are busy. Book those in advance, not optional.
Everything is open, which is a genuine advantage. Restaurants, museums, rooftop bars – it’s all running. The later evening culture actually works in your favour here. Dinner at 10pm, walking around at midnight when it’s dropped to a manageable 28°C – that part is genuinely magical and feels like nowhere else.
Is it worth it? For night owls, people who genuinely love heat, budget travellers catching cheaper flights and hotels, or anyone who can’t visit at other times – absolutely yes. The city is stunning and the evening atmosphere is special. For families with young children, elderly travellers, or anyone heat-sensitive, honestly reconsider. April or October will show you the same incredible city without the physical battering.
**Practical tip:** Book accommodation with air conditioning explicitly confirmed, not just listed. Check reviews specifically mention it works properly. This is non-negotiable in July.
