Visiting Sharm el-Sheikh in April

# Sharm el-Sheikh in April: What It’s Actually Like

April is genuinely one of the better times to visit Sharm, and I say that as someone who’s been there in August and nearly melted into the pavement.

**The Weather**

April sits in that sweet spot before the real heat arrives. Temperatures hover around 28-32°C, which feels warm but manageable rather than oppressive. The sea is around 22-23°C — not Caribbean-warm, but absolutely swimmable, and visibility underwater is typically excellent. Rainfall is essentially a non-event. Sharm is desert coast; you might see a few drops over the entire month, possibly nothing at all. Pack accordingly — you won’t need anything waterproof.

**The Crowds**

Here’s where it gets honest. Easter falls in April most years, and Europeans descend in significant numbers. The Naama Bay strip and the main resort beaches will feel busy, particularly around the Easter fortnight. If you’re visiting mid-April outside the school holiday window, it thins out noticeably. You won’t have the place to yourself, but you won’t be fighting for sunbeds either.

**What’s Open**

Everything. April is peak season, so every restaurant, dive centre, excursion operator and beach club is fully operational. This is actually worth appreciating — Sharm can feel oddly skeletal in quieter months when half the businesses are shuttered.

**Is It Worth It, And For Whom?**

Genuinely yes, particularly for divers and snorkellers. The Ras Mohammed marine park and the Tiran Strait reefs are outstanding, and April conditions make the most of them. Families with school-age children will find it warm enough for all-day beach time without the brutalising heat of July and August. If you hate crowds, go mid-month and avoid the Easter peak.

It’s less ideal if you’re budget-hunting — prices climb during Easter school holidays, so you’ll pay more for the same room you’d get cheaper in March.

**One Practical Tip**

Book your diving or snorkelling excursions before you arrive. During Easter week specifically, reputable operators fill up fast, and you don’t want to end up on a overcrowded boat with questionable equipment just because it was the only thing left.
