Look, February in Side is a bit of a gamble, and anyone telling you otherwise is trying to sell you something.

The weather sits in that frustrating middle ground where it’s not cold enough to feel dramatically wintery and not warm enough to actually enjoy yourself properly. Temperatures hover around 12-15°C during the day, which sounds fine until you’re standing next to the Mediterranean realising you absolutely cannot get in it. Evenings get genuinely chilly. Rain can show up for days at a stretch without much warning, and when it does, those beautiful ancient ruins you came to see become slippery, grey, and slightly miserable to walk around. What February does give you, unambiguously, is emptiness. The hordes of summer tourists are completely absent. The downside of that emptiness is that a significant chunk of Side effectively closes. Many restaurants, bars, and hotels shut up for winter and don’t reopen until April or May. You’ll find limited dining options and the overall energy is muted. It’s not a ghost town, but it’s not far off some evenings.

So who should actually go in February? History enthusiasts and photographers who prioritise the ruins over beach time will genuinely love it. Budget travellers get excellent deals on the accommodation that does stay open. Couples who want somewhere peaceful rather than party-focused will appreciate the quiet. Anyone expecting a sunshine holiday should book a different month without question.

**One practical tip:** Ring ahead before booking anything beyond your hotel. Seriously, call the specific restaurant or attraction you’re planning around, because online listings are wildly unreliable about February opening hours. Things that appear open simply aren’t, and you don’t want to discover that on the night.
