Look, October in Tivat is genuinely lovely, but it’s not the postcard version you’ve been sold.

The temperature sits around 17 degrees, which sounds perfect on paper. And honestly, during the day it often is – warm enough for a coffee on the waterfront without a coat, pleasant for walking around Porto Montenegro without sweating through your shirt. But evenings drop noticeably, so pack something with actual sleeves. The 45mm of rainfall means you’ll almost certainly catch at least one grey, drizzly day where the mountains disappear into cloud and the Bay of Kotor looks more Baltic than Adriatic. That’s not a disaster, but go knowing it’s coming.

The crowds question is where October really earns its reputation. The summer hordes – the superyacht crowd, the tour groups, the families with screaming children – have mostly cleared out. Porto Montenegro still has life in it, the restaurants are open, and you can actually walk around without feeling like you’re queuing for a theme park. It’s quieter in a genuinely relaxing way rather than a ghost-town way.

What’s open is a reasonable question. Most restaurants around the marina stay open through October. Some of the beach clubs and more seasonal spots start closing mid-month. The old town of Kotor, which is where most people end up spending half their time anyway, operates normally. Don’t expect the full summer circus, but you won’t be hunting for food or coffee.

Is it worth it? For couples, older travellers, remote workers, anyone who hates crowds but still wants Mediterranean vibes – yes, absolutely. If you’re coming for beach holidays and nightlife, you’ve missed it by about six weeks.

**One practical tip:** Don’t just stay in Tivat. It’s honestly more of a base than a destination. October is perfect weather for the drive to Kotor, the road to Lovcen, or a boat trip on the bay before the operators pack up for winter. The surrounding area is the actual point.
