# Valencia in July: Hot, Busy, and Worth It (With Caveats)
Let’s be straight with you: July in Valencia is properly hot. We’re talking 29°C average, but that figure flatters it a little because the humidity from the coast makes it feel stickier than the number suggests. By 2pm you’ll be moving slowly, seeking shade, and reconsidering every life choice that led you to leave an air-conditioned room.
The good news is that rain is basically irrelevant. Five millimetres across the whole month means you can plan outdoor things without a second thought. Blue skies are almost guaranteed.
**What it’s actually like**
The city splits into two versions of itself in July. The tourist Valencia — the City of Arts and Sciences, the cathedral, the central market — is genuinely busy, especially with European families on school holidays. Queues exist. Prices are higher. Malvarrosa beach gets crowded by mid-morning. But step two streets off any main route and you’ll find quieter neighbourhoods like Ruzafa or Benimaclet ticking along normally, with locals who haven’t fled yet.
Some Valencians *do* leave in August rather than July, so July is actually the better of the two summer months for experiencing something resembling real city life alongside the tourists.
**What’s open**
Essentially everything. Museums, restaurants, the market — all operating. The Bioparc and Oceanogràfic are good options precisely because they’re partially shaded or air-conditioned. Horchata from a proper granería becomes less of a novelty and more of a survival mechanism.
**Is it worth it?**
For beach lovers, nightlife seekers, and people who genuinely enjoy warm evenings eating outside at 10pm — absolutely yes. Valencia’s summer nights are lovely once the sun drops.
If you’re there primarily for walking and sightseeing, you’ll struggle between noon and 5pm. It’s not impossible, just uncomfortable.
**One practical tip**
Book restaurants for 9pm or later. You’ll eat when locals eat, it’ll be cooler, and you’ll immediately stop feeling like a tourist.
