Visiting Vilamoura in November

# Vilamoura in November: The Honest Picture

Look, November in Vilamoura is genuinely hard to pin down weather-wise, and anyone telling you otherwise is guessing. You might land to warm, sunny days in the low 20s that feel like a gift. You might get a week of grey skies and Atlantic rain that nobody warned you about. The Algarve does get most of its annual rainfall between October and February, so come with realistic expectations and a light waterproof rather than twelve bikinis.

What you’ll find is a resort town that has largely exhaled. The summer crowds have completely dissolved. The marina still looks gorgeous, but half the restaurants around it have pulled their shutters down for the season. The ones that stay open are genuinely good – these are the places locals actually use, not the tourist traps running on footfall. You’ll eat better and pay noticeably less than you would in August.

The casino stays open. Golf courses are operating and often at better rates, and this is honestly when serious golfers prefer the Algarve anyway – cooler temperatures, no queuing on the tees, greens in good condition after summer stress. If golf is your thing, November is quietly one of the better months.

The beach will mostly be empty. Whether that’s appealing depends entirely on you. For a long walk with a dog or a coffee while staring at waves, brilliant. For swimming and sunbathing, risky.

Is it worth visiting? For couples or solo travellers who want somewhere quiet, relatively cheap, and genuinely peaceful, yes absolutely. For families expecting a holiday-resort buzz, or anyone wanting beach-focused fun, you’re visiting the wrong version of this place. It’s a skeleton of its summer self, and some people find that charming, others find it slightly melancholy.

**Practical tip:** Book accommodation that includes a kitchen or at least a kettle and decent breakfast, because you cannot rely on finding multiple open restaurants within walking distance on a random Tuesday evening. Do your homework on what’s actually operating before you arrive.
