Where to Stay in Rab

Rab Town is the obvious choice for most visitors and for good reason. The old town sits on a narrow peninsula with four bell towers and genuinely medieval streets, and staying here puts you within walking distance of everything worth seeing. Hotels and apartments in this area tend to be mid-range by Croatian island standards, which means you can find a decent room with air conditioning and a private bathroom for around 80 to 120 euros per night during peak July and August. The trade-off is noise. The main promenade fills up with people until well past midnight in summer, so ask specifically for a room facing away from the waterfront or you will lie awake listening to outdoor bars until two in the morning.

Palit, a small settlement about ten minutes by foot from Rab Town, offers a quieter alternative without completely sacrificing convenience. Accommodation here leans toward apartment rentals and smaller family-run guesthouses, which often deliver better value than the larger hotels in town. You get more space, sometimes a kitchen, and significantly less noise while remaining close enough to walk into the old town for dinner.

Banjol sits on the other side and attracts families because of its proximity to a long shingle beach. It is slightly more built-up and less charming than the areas around the old town, but prices tend to be a touch lower and the atmosphere is relaxed rather than buzzing.

Avoid booking anything on the far northern tip of the island near Lopar if your primary interest is the historic town itself. Lopar has its own pleasant sandy beaches and suits people who want a pure beach holiday, but you will need a car for everything and the drive back after dinner gets old quickly.

The single most common booking mistake on Rab is reserving accommodation listed as sea view without checking which sea view. Some rooms look directly onto a narrow channel with moored boats rather than the open water, which matters less than you might think but can still feel like a minor disappointment after paying a premium.
