Where to Stay in Rhodes

Rhodes town itself is the obvious base for most visitors, and for good reason. The medieval old town is genuinely one of the best-preserved in Europe, and staying inside its ancient walls puts you within walking distance of the main sights, decent restaurants, and the buzz that most people come for. Mid-range hotels here typically run between 80 and 150 euros a night in high season, and you get atmosphere that no resort strip can replicate. The streets are narrow and occasionally noisy at night, but that is part of the deal. Look for smaller boutique hotels converted from old stone buildings rather than the larger chain-style properties that have squeezed into the new town just outside the walls.

Faliraki gets a bad reputation, mostly deserved, though the southern end of the resort is calmer than the strip most people picture. If you want a proper beach holiday with easy access to Rhodes town, Lindos is worth considering. It is more expensive and extremely crowded in July and August, but the village itself is beautiful and the beach below the acropolis is genuinely impressive. A mid-range room here in peak season will push toward the top of your budget.

Avoid Ialyssos and the northern resort belt entirely if you have any interest in actual Greek character. It is all-inclusive hotels, sunburned tourists, and English breakfast menus. There is nothing wrong with that for some travellers, but it offers poor value compared to staying somewhere with genuine personality.

The classic booking mistake on Rhodes is reserving too early based on price and only later realising the hotel is a twenty-minute drive from anything worth seeing. Always check the exact location against a map, not just the town name listed in the booking details, because several properties market themselves under popular place names while sitting in far less convenient spots.

For mid-range budgets, booking directly with smaller hotels often unlocks better rates than the major platforms, and owners are usually willing to negotiate stays of five nights or more during shoulder season.
