Visiting Milos in April

Weather in April: Average high 20°C, 30mm rainfall.

# Milos in April: Honestly Worth It (With Caveats)

April on Milos sits in that slightly awkward shoulder season where the island hasn’t fully woken up yet but is definitely stirring. Temperatures hover around 20°C, which sounds perfect on paper and mostly is — you can walk for hours without melting, explore the colourful fishing villages without sweating through your clothes, and actually enjoy a meal outside in the evening with just a light jacket. The sea is still cold though, properly cold, so swimming is really only for the committed or the delusional.

That 30mm of rain is real. It doesn’t mean two weeks of misery, but expect a few grey days, possibly some dramatic cloud sitting over the volcanic landscape which, honestly, looks incredible and moody. Pack layers and a waterproof. Don’t pack only summer dresses and sandals or you’ll regret it immediately.

Crowds are minimal, which is either the whole point or a problem depending on what you’re after. The famous Sarakiniko moonscape is yours to wander without fighting for photographs. Klima, with its syrmata boat garages painted in candy colours, feels genuinely peaceful rather than performative. You can eat at a taverna and have the owner actually talk to you like a human being rather than processing you like a transaction.

The downside is real though: probably a third of restaurants and accommodation options stay closed until May. Some boat trips to the best sea caves run infrequently or not at all depending on weather and demand. You won’t get the full Milos experience in terms of variety.

Who should go in April? Hikers, photographers, anyone who prioritises atmosphere over amenities, couples who don’t need a packed social scene, people who’ve already done peak-season Greek islands and know what they’re trading. If you want a buzzing beach holiday with everything open and warm water, wait until June.

**Practical tip:** Rent a car immediately. Buses are extremely limited in April and the best spots — Tsigrado, Firiplaka, the ancient theatre — require your own wheels to reach without serious logistical faff.
