# Positano in February: Pretty, Quiet, and Occasionally Soggy

Let me be straight with you: February is not Positano at its best. But depending on what you want, it might actually be Positano at *your* best.

The weather sits around 12°C, which sounds almost reasonable until you factor in 151mm of rain spread across the month. That’s not light drizzle – that’s proper wet days where the clouds sit so low they swallow the hillside entirely and those famous pastel houses just disappear into grey. The Amalfi Coast in February can look genuinely moody and beautiful, or it can look like a car park in Leeds. Sometimes both on the same afternoon.

The crowds, however, are essentially nonexistent. This is the real reason people consider coming. Those staircases and narrow lanes that get absolutely choked in summer? You’ll have them to yourself. You can stand on the beach and count the other people on one hand. You can actually *look* at the town rather than photograph it through someone else’s selfie stick.

The practical reality is that probably 60-70% of businesses are closed. Many restaurants, hotels, and shops simply shut from January through March. The ones that remain open are genuinely local – the places catering to the handful of residents rather than tourists, which means the experience feels more honest even if your options are limited. Check specific restaurants before you go rather than assuming your shortlist will be operating.

Is it worth it? For couples wanting somewhere beautiful and atmospheric without the performance of peak season, honestly yes. For photographers who want the town without the crowds, absolutely. For anyone expecting the full Positano experience – beach bars, boat trips, the whole Mediterranean summer fantasy – wait until May or June.

The town itself is still gorgeous even in rain. Architecture doesn’t care about the weather.

**Practical tip:** Pack layers you can genuinely waterproof, not just a light jacket. And book accommodation well ahead anyway – the few places that stay open fill up faster than you’d expect precisely *because* so little is available.
