# Marbella in December: The Honest Version
Let’s be straight with you. Marbella in December is not the Marbella of Instagram. The parasols are packed away, half the beach clubs have pulled down their shutters, and you won’t be swimming unless you’re genuinely unhinged or Scandinavian.
What you *will* get is 16 degrees and mostly pleasant days that feel like a mild British April, which depending on where you’re coming from might honestly feel like a gift. It’s not cold exactly, but you’ll want a jacket for evenings and you’ll use it. The 74mm of rainfall that month sounds alarming but typically arrives in bursts rather than relentless grey drizzle. You can easily have five beautiful sunny days interrupted by one properly wet one.
The crowds are essentially gone. Puerto Banús still has a pulse — some restaurants, the odd yacht, people who clearly live there — but it’s operating at maybe 30% capacity. The old town holds up reasonably well, with enough bars and restaurants staying open to keep you fed and entertained. The Golden Mile quiets down considerably.
What’s genuinely open: the old town restaurants, some beach bars doing lunch, the main shops, golf courses (and they’re quieter and cheaper). What’s largely closed: most beach clubs, many of the flashier seasonal spots, anything that really depends on summer footfall.
Is it worth going? Yes, for specific people. If you want winter sun without the circus, enjoy walking without battling crowds, and don’t need a beach holiday to actually involve swimming, Marbella in December works well. It’s good for golf, good for eating properly at restaurants that have time for you, and genuinely peaceful in a way the summer version never is. Couples and older travellers tend to get more out of it than groups chasing nightlife.
If you need heat, parties, or a buzzing atmosphere, go somewhere else. This isn’t that.
**Practical tip:** Book dinner reservations even in December. Fewer restaurants are open, so the good ones fill up faster than you’d expect.
