# Saranda in April: Worth It?
Saranda in April sits in that interesting middle ground where it hasn’t quite woken up from winter but you can feel it trying. The temperature hovers around 18 degrees, which sounds lovely on paper and mostly is – warm enough to walk around in a light jacket, comfortable for exploring, occasionally deceptive when a cloud rolls in off the Ionian and suddenly you’re wishing you’d packed something heavier. You’ll get around 30mm of rain spread across the month, so not constant, but expect a few genuinely grey days where the famous turquoise water looks considerably less Instagram-friendly.
The crowds situation is honestly the best thing about visiting now. Saranda in July and August is hectic, overpriced, and the beaches are packed with sun loungers practically touching each other. April? You can actually walk down the promenade without feeling like you’re at a festival. The town has a slightly sleepy, locals-reclaiming-their-space energy that’s genuinely pleasant if you’re not desperately chasing a beach holiday.
What’s open is a fair question. Most restaurants along the waterfront are operating, though some smaller places are still shuttered waiting for peak season. Ksamil, the nearby village with those brilliant small beaches, has limited services – you’ll find it beautiful but skeletal. Butrint, the UNESCO archaeological site just south of town, is absolutely open and April might actually be the ideal time to visit since you can wander the ruins without sweating through your shirt or queuing behind tour groups.
Is it worth it? For beach lounging in swimwear, probably not quite yet – the water temperature isn’t there and the vibe isn’t either. But for people who want to explore, eat well cheaply, see Butrint properly, and get a genuine sense of a working Albanian town without tourist inflation, April is genuinely excellent. Couples, solo travellers, and anyone who finds peak season exhausting will enjoy this version of Saranda considerably more.
**Practical tip:** Book accommodation but don’t stress about restaurants – you can walk in anywhere, which is half the pleasure.
