# Ischia in February: The Honest Truth
Look, February in Ischia is a completely different planet from the place that fills up with German tourists and day-trippers every July. And depending on what you’re after, that’s either the best or worst thing I can tell you.
The weather is properly mild rather than genuinely warm. Around 10 degrees means you’ll want a proper jacket, and that 50mm of rainfall lands across the month in moody, unpredictable bursts. Some days you’ll get brilliant clear light and views across to the mainland that make you feel like you’ve discovered somewhere secret. Other days you’ll sit in a bar watching rain bounce off cobblestones for four hours. Both are fine, actually.
The crowds are essentially nonexistent. Casamicciola, Forio, Sant’Angelo — you walk through them feeling like you’ve been given a private preview. Locals actually make eye contact. Nobody is trying to sell you a boat trip. The thermal parks, including Poseidon and Aphrodite, are mostly closed or operating skeleton schedules, so if steaming in outdoor pools is your reason for coming, check very carefully before booking anything.
What stays open: bakeries, local restaurants serving proper food rather than tourist menus, churches, the Aragonese Castle (absolutely worth it, even in drizzle), and enough bars to keep you comfortable. Accommodation prices drop significantly, sometimes by half compared to peak season.
Is it worth going? Genuinely yes, but for a specific type of person. If you want atmosphere, slow walking, reading in cafes, eating well without queuing, and actually talking to someone who lives there — February delivers. If you need beach weather, thermal pool access, and evening buzz, you’ll find it underwhelming and slightly melancholy.
**One practical tip:** Book a room with a kitchen or kitchenette. The covered markets are still running with incredible local produce, and cooking for yourself a couple of evenings means you eat like a resident and stretch your budget considerably. It also gives you something to do when the rain rolls in off the sea and shows no sign of leaving.
