# Sitges in September: The Sweet Spot Nobody Talks About

September is honestly one of the better times to visit Sitges, and I’d argue most people sleeping on it are doing themselves a disservice.

The crowds thin out noticeably after the first week. Spanish school holidays end in early September, which means the beaches that were absolutely rammed in August start feeling like actual beaches again rather than a game of human Tetris. You can find a spot on Platja de la Ribera without having to stake your claim at 8am, and the promenade restaurants will actually have tables available without a 45-minute wait. The vibe shifts from chaotic summer carnival to something more relaxed and genuinely enjoyable.

Temperature-wise, 25°C is legitimately lovely. It’s warm enough for swimming — the sea holds its summer heat well into September — but you’re not melting into the pavement. Evenings become pleasant rather than oppressive, which makes wandering the old town and sitting outside actually comfortable rather than an endurance test.

The rain figure of around 85mm sounds alarming but don’t panic. September rain in this part of Catalonia tends to arrive as short, sharp afternoon or evening thunderstorms rather than grey drizzle all day. You’ll likely experience a dramatic downpour, it’ll clear, and then everything smells amazing. Pack a light rain jacket rather than an umbrella and you’ll be fine.

Almost everything is still open. Restaurants, bars, beach clubs, the Cau Ferrat museum — September doesn’t see the shutdowns that October and November bring. The LGBTQ+ scene, which is a big part of what makes Sitges special, remains lively and welcoming throughout the month.

This is genuinely a great time for couples, solo travellers and anyone who finds peak-August beach tourism a bit exhausting. Families will still enjoy it. Party seekers might find the energy slightly lower, but only slightly.

**Practical tip:** Book accommodation for the first two weeks if you’re coming early September — it’s cheaper than August but demand hasn’t fully dropped yet, and decent places still fill up faster than you’d expect.
