# Olympos in April: Worth the Trip?

Okay, so April in Olympos is genuinely one of those months where you’re rolling the dice a little, but in a way that might actually work in your favor.

The weather sits in that awkward teenage phase between winter and summer. Daytime temperatures hover around 15-20°C, which feels great if you’re hiking or poking around ruins, but can feel distinctly chilly once the sun drops behind the valley walls, which happens earlier than you’d expect given how the gorge cuts out the light. Pack layers you actually mean to wear, not just “emergency” layers stuffed at the bottom of your bag. Rain is genuinely possible, sometimes probable, and when it rains in that valley it commits to the decision. The Olympos stream can swell enough to make the riverside path properly muddy and occasionally impassable.

That said, the crowds situation is close to ideal. The backpacker tree-house camp scene that takes over in summer hasn’t fully switched on yet. Several of the famous camps are still shuttered or running skeleton operations, which either appeals to you or doesn’t. The ruins themselves, always free to wander, feel genuinely atmospheric without forty people taking selfies in the same archway. The beach is practically yours.

What’s open is patchy though, and that’s worth knowing. Some restaurants in the village are still doing winter hours or haven’t reopened. The Chimaera flames up the hill are accessible and absolutely worth the evening walk regardless of what month you visit.

Is it worth going in April? Honestly, yes, but specifically if you’re the type who likes a place slightly undone and doesn’t need guaranteed sunshine and a buzzing social scene. Hikers, photographers, people who’ve done Olympos before and want a quieter version, solo travelers who find the summer vibe exhausting, this is your month.

**Practical tip:** Bring waterproof shoes, not just trainers. The path through the ruins to the beach runs alongside the stream and April rain makes it properly wet underfoot. You’ll thank yourself immediately.
