Visiting Mellieha in June

# Mellieħa in June: What to Actually Expect

June is when Malta starts getting serious about summer, and Mellieħa is no exception. The temperatures are climbing comfortably into the high twenties Celsius, sometimes nudging thirty, and the sun is putting in long, confident days. It’s genuinely warm rather than brutal – that punishing July and August heat hasn’t quite arrived yet, which makes June arguably a sweeter spot for actually doing things rather than just lying prostrate under an umbrella.

Rainfall is minimal. You might get the odd brief shower, but realistically you’re not packing an umbrella for daily use. The sea is warming up nicely by June, typically hovering around 22-24 degrees, which is genuinely pleasant rather than the “refreshing” euphemism people use for cold water.

Crowds are building but haven’t peaked. Mellieħa Bay gets busy on weekends, and you’ll notice more families arriving as the school holiday season edges closer in the latter half of the month. It’s not shoulder season quiet, but it’s not the August sardine situation either. You can still find a decent spot on the beach without military-level early rising.

Everything is open. Restaurants, boat trips to Comino’s Blue Lagoon, the Għadira Nature Reserve, the sanctuary – it’s all running. The Blue Lagoon trips are worth doing in June specifically because by August the water itself is wall-to-wall tourists and the experience becomes genuinely grim.

**Is it worth visiting?** Yes, honestly, for most people it’s a better choice than peak summer. Couples, active travellers, and anyone who wilts in extreme heat will appreciate the slightly gentler conditions. Families work well here too. It’s probably not the move if you’re chasing the absolute maximum beach-party energy – that arrives properly in July.

**One practical tip:** Book your Blue Lagoon boat trip for early morning departure. By midday the lagoon looks beautiful in photos but you’re essentially floating among hundreds of other boats. The 8am crowd is a completely different experience, and June gives you good odds of actually enjoying it.
