# Protaras in April: What It’s Actually Like

April in Protaras sits in that slightly awkward shoulder season where the resort is rubbing its eyes and stretching after winter. The weather is genuinely pleasant rather than spectacular – you’re looking at temperatures hovering around 20-22°C during the day, which feels lovely if you’ve come from northern Europe but might disappoint anyone expecting scorching beach days. Rain is possible, particularly early in the month. It’s not monsoon territory, but you could absolutely have a grey afternoon or two, so don’t pack exclusively for the pool.

The sea is cold. People do swim, because people will always swim, but the Mediterranean hasn’t warmed up properly yet and you’ll feel it. Paddling is fine. Committed lengths are another matter.

**Crowds and what’s open**

This is honestly one of the better things about April. Protaras in July and August becomes a very different place – packed, loud, expensive, and exhausting. In April, Fig Tree Bay is genuinely walkable without performing an obstacle course between sunbeds. Most restaurants are open, the main strip is functioning, but nobody is fighting over a parking space or a table.

Some water parks and attractions are still transitioning from winter hours or haven’t fully opened, so worth checking specific places in advance rather than assuming everything is running at full capacity.

**Who it actually suits**

April Protaras is genuinely ideal for couples who want a relaxed break with good food and pretty coastal walks without the summer circus. It works well for anyone who finds heat exhausting. Families with young children can manage it, though kids hoping for serious beach time might find the cooler water a mild disappointment.

If your entire holiday depends on baking in 35-degree heat and the sea being a warm bathtub, come back in July. But if you’re after somewhere pretty, easy, and considerably calmer than peak season, April delivers that honestly.

**Practical tip**

Book a hire car. Protaras is more interesting when you can reach Cape Greco and the quieter coves easily, and in April the roads are mercifully stress-free.
