Look, February in Tangier is genuinely unpredictable, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. The city sits at the northern tip of Morocco where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean, which means the weather does whatever it wants. You might get crisp, bright days with that sharp northern light that makes the white buildings glow. You might get grey, damp weeks where the wind comes off the strait and cuts straight through you. Pack layers regardless, and bring a proper waterproof jacket, not the optimistic thin one you took to Barcelona that one time.

What you do get in February is the city feeling genuinely like itself. The medina is navigable. You can walk through the Petit Socco without running a gauntlet of aggressive touts every three steps, because the tourist numbers are low enough that the hustling economy has quieted down considerably. Locals are going about their actual lives. The cafes along the seafront have a quiet, contemplative energy that’s honestly quite appealing if you’re not demanding sunshine and bustle.

Everything is open. This isn’t a seasonal resort town that shuts down in winter. The restaurants, the hammams, the galleries in the Kasbah, the American Legation museum – all functioning normally. Hotel prices are noticeably lower than peak season, which matters because Tangier’s better riads can be genuinely expensive in summer.

Is it worth it? For certain people, absolutely yes. If you want atmosphere over beach days, if you’re interested in the city’s complicated literary history or its architecture or just wandering without a crowd breathing down your neck, February is quietly excellent. If you need guaranteed warm sunshine and outdoor dining every night, wait until May.

**One practical tip:** The wind off the strait can be brutal, especially up around the Kasbah walls where there’s no shelter. That view across to Spain is spectacular, but you’ll want your warmest layer for it. Check the forecast that specific morning before committing to an hour outdoors up there.
