Here’s the thing about Tangier in October – it’s genuinely one of the better times to go, but not for the reasons you’d find on a glossy travel site.

The weather sits in that comfortable middle ground. Daytime temperatures hover around 22-26°C, warm enough to enjoy the terrace at a medina café without sweating through your shirt, cool enough to actually walk around without suffering. Evenings drop noticeably, so pack something with sleeves. Rainfall is unpredictable – early October tends to stay dry, but by late October you’re rolling the dice. A shower can materialise and hang around for two days, or it might not rain at all. Nobody can promise you sunshine, including me.

Crowds thin out considerably from the summer peak, which genuinely transforms the experience. The Grand Socco and the medina become places you can actually pause in rather than just fight through. European summer tourists have largely gone home, and the city feels more like itself – which, to be clear, is chaotic, layered, occasionally overwhelming, and completely worth it.

Everything is open. Hotels, restaurants, the Kasbah Museum, the American Legation. Some smaller operations run reduced hours but nothing significant closes. You’re not navigating around seasonal shutdowns.

Is it worth it? Honestly, yes, for specific people. If you like cities that feel genuinely alive rather than performed for visitors, if you’re comfortable with somewhere that doesn’t particularly care whether you enjoy it or not, if you want Morocco without Marrakech’s intensity and Fez’s labyrinthine confusion – Tangier in October is a solid choice. It rewards the curious and mildly experienced traveller. It will exhaust and frustrate someone expecting easy charm.

**Practical tip:** The ferry crossing from Tarifa in southern Spain takes 35 minutes and is remarkably straightforward. Book the crossing in advance but don’t stress about it – sailings are frequent. This makes Tangier an genuinely viable addition to a Spain trip rather than a standalone commitment, which October’s mild conditions make even more appealing.
