Rainfall is essentially nonexistent in July, so you won’t get rained on, but don’t mistake that for comfortable weather.

Here’s the thing though, and this is actually worth knowing: Alexandria gets a sea breeze that Cairo completely lacks. If you’ve just survived a few days in Cairo in summer, Alexandria will genuinely feel like relief. The Corniche catches wind off the Mediterranean and there are moments, usually late afternoon, that are almost pleasant.

Crowds are a real factor in July. This is peak Egyptian domestic tourism season, when Cairene families escape the capital heat and descend on Alexandria’s beaches and seafront. The beaches, particularly Montazah, get genuinely packed. Restaurants fill up by 9pm. Traffic along the Corniche moves slowly. The city feels alive and chaotic rather than authentically itself.

The major attractions stay open, including the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the catacombs at Kom el Shoqafa, and the Citadel of Qaitbay. The library is honestly a blessing in July because the air conditioning is excellent and the building itself is stunning. Plan to spend longer there than you normally would.

Is it worth visiting in July? It depends entirely on who you are. If you want quiet exploration of Greco-Roman ruins and thoughtful wandering through a complex, layered city, go in April or October. If you enjoy a city when locals actually use it, if you like watching Egyptian family beach culture, eating extraordinary seafood late at night while everyone around you is also sweating and not caring, then July has genuine character.

**Practical tip:** Book your seafood lunch for 1pm on weekdays, not evenings. You’ll get a table, better service, and the fish is the same quality without the weekend chaos.
