Visiting Sharm el-Sheikh in October

# Sharm el-Sheikh in October: What It’s Actually Like

Let me be straight with you — October is genuinely one of the better months to visit Sharm, and it’s not even close.

The summer crowds of Europeans have largely packed up and gone home, which means you’re not fighting for sunbeds at Naama Bay or queueing twenty minutes for a mediocre cocktail. The resort still has plenty of life, but it breathes a little easier. You’ll notice it immediately when you arrive.

**The weather situation** is where things get interesting. October sits in that sweet transition zone where the brutal Egyptian summer heat starts backing off. Early October can still hit the high thirties, genuinely fierce if you’re not used to it. By late October you’re looking at low-to-mid thirties most days, which most people find far more manageable. Rainfall is essentially a non-issue — Sharm barely sees any precipitation all year, and October is no exception. Pack accordingly, meaning sunscreen, not umbrellas.

**The Red Sea is at its absolute peak** in October. Water temperatures hover around 26-27 degrees after months of summer warming, visibility underwater is excellent, and the marine life is active. If diving or snorkelling is your reason for coming — and honestly it should be a reason — this is prime time. Most dive centres are fully operational and you’ll find instructors who actually have time for you rather than herding large groups.

**What’s open** is essentially everything. Hotels, restaurants, excursions, the works. Some smaller spots run reduced hours compared to peak summer, but nothing significant closes.

**Who is this trip for?** Divers and snorkellers, couples wanting a quieter beach holiday, people who hate crowds but still want sun and a functioning resort infrastructure. It’s less ideal if you’re bringing young kids who need a buzzing, entertainment-heavy atmosphere — it won’t feel flat exactly, but it won’t be pumping either.

**One practical tip:** Book airport transfers in advance. Arrival queues can still be chaotic regardless of season, and having someone waiting removes one layer of stress from what can be a surprisingly grinding arrival experience.
