Visiting Aqaba in October
Visiting Aqaba in October
# Aqaba in October: Worth the Trip?
October is genuinely one of the better times to visit Aqaba, and it doesn’t get nearly enough credit for it.
The summer heat that makes July and August feel like standing inside a hairdryer starts backing off by October. You’re looking at temperatures somewhere in the low-to-mid 30s Celsius early in the month, gradually cooling toward the high 20s by the end. It’s still warm — nobody’s reaching for a jacket during the day — but you can actually walk around outside without feeling like you’re making a serious mistake. Evenings get comfortable enough to sit by the water without sweating through your shirt, which is genuinely pleasant.
Rainfall is minimal to basically nonexistent. Aqaba is desert, so October stays dry. Don’t worry about that.
Crowds are in a nice middle ground. The European summer tourist wave has gone home, but it’s not so quiet that everything feels closed or half-hearted. The dive shops are operating properly, hotels are staffed, and restaurants are actually trying. The Red Sea diving and snorkeling is excellent this time of year — visibility is good, water temperature is still warm enough that you don’t need a heavy wetsuit, and the reefs aren’t as congested as they get in peak season. If underwater stuff is your reason for coming, October makes a strong case for itself.
The beach scene is still functioning but noticeably calmer. You’ll share the waterfront with Jordanian families and a mixed crowd of travelers rather than the full summer scrum.
Is it worth visiting in October? Yes, honestly — especially if you’re someone who wants to actually do things rather than just survive the heat. Divers, snorkelers, hikers planning day trips to Wadi Rum, and anyone combining Aqaba with Petra will find October genuinely comfortable and logistically easy.
**One practical tip:** Book your dive trips a day or two in advance rather than assuming you can walk up. The better operators do fill up, even in shoulder season, and you don’t want to spend your best beach day on a waiting list.
