Visiting Aqaba in September

Visiting Aqaba in September

# Aqaba in September: Still Firmly in Summer Territory

Let’s be straight with you — September in Aqaba is hot. We’re talking consistently around 36-38°C, occasionally nudging higher, with humidity rolling in off the Red Sea that makes the heat feel sticky and personal. The summer hasn’t packed its bags yet. Not even close. If you were hoping for a gentle transition into autumn, Jordan hasn’t got the memo.

Rainfall is essentially zero. You’re not going to get rained on, which is fine, but you’re also not getting any relief from cloud cover either. Most days are relentlessly sunny and bright, which sounds lovely until you’re standing on a beach at 2pm wondering if your flip flops are melting.

That said, the crowds have started thinning. The peak European family holiday rush has largely wrapped up by September, so you’ll find hotels a bit quieter, the waterfront promenade less chaotic, and sun loungers actually available. Jordanian and regional visitors still come on weekends, so Friday and Saturday see a noticeable uptick in noise and activity.

Everything is open. Restaurants, dive operators, snorkelling trips, the ferry crossing to Egypt — September is fully operational. The snorkelling and diving are genuinely excellent because visibility in the Red Sea tends to be superb, and the marine life doesn’t care what month it is.

Is it worth visiting in September? Honestly, it depends entirely on your heat tolerance. If you’re someone who wilts above 30°C, wait for October or November when temperatures become genuinely pleasant and Aqaba transforms into something much more comfortable and arguably more enjoyable. If you handle heat well and want lower prices with decent availability, September works perfectly fine. Underwater, things are brilliant regardless.

It suits divers and serious snorkellers most — you’re in the water anyway. Beach holiday purists who want to actually sit outside for extended periods might struggle.

**Practical tip:** Book accommodation with a good pool. You’ll use it constantly between roughly 11am and 5pm when the beach genuinely isn’t enjoyable.
